Is it worth bidding on a car with damage, would you get a bargain, and what about getting the heap home?

I guess if you were after lots of fairlane bits n white NL panels (unsmashed ones) it'd be worth bidding on.
Otherwise you will have to try n sell all the crap off it which is time consuming and proberly not going to be profitable depending on auction ending price.
Getting it home is simple; flatbed truck / HUGE trailer / tow truck..etc.

if you check the car out fully, and have an idea of what you can get for parts, it can be more than worthwhile! i've easily made $$$ from my wreck, and still keeping $2.5k+ worth of parts for myself

Surely there are wreckers around Melbourne who sell damaged vehicles and you can buy them for parts, or repair and put back on the road.

I have seen some ads in the Trading Post for damaged cars like EF Ghias and you buy them whole.

Buying wrecks is a great way to go. I did a full V8 conversion in my EBII Ghia. Motor, Box, Looms and other misc parts all for $1500! Sold all the goodies off the rest of the car, and the leftover bits from the 4L and almost came out square.
