Just wondering what the function of the hole is that I have marked on the rear of the lower inlet manifold pictured below. Can someone enlighten me?

It is the port for the crankcase vent. The inlet mani there is off a windsor 5L, probably EB thru to EL, if not it'll be ex mustang.

Its the lower manifold off an explorer or GT40 manifold.

EB through to AU.

Its for the PCV Valve.

There is a grommet that fits in there, PCV valve is then fitted in the grommet, and the valve is hooked up to the upper inlet manifold.

So it's to re-burn those gases that weren't burnt properly the first time through?

Also, will I need the rubber grommit or will the piping going into it actually fit and hold in there without the need for the grommit?

I think you're going to need the proper pipe with the plastic bit on the end to go into the lower manifold there, I've seen them before and it looks like a valve of some type. The plastic bit on the ned of the hose you just fit there snuggly, it doesn't need anything else. Just use the one off your car.. If you leave it off the car the car will rev to buggery lol.

Same as h.o inlet..Same pcv as well...
It burns gasses that have leaked past rings / pistons. EFI engines run crap with this off as air is drawn into engine unmetered...Causing lean condition and as said will have unstable idle conditions...Pcv's keep oil and crankcase clean...

Yes, its the PCV valve that plugs in there.

Vic - whatever you have in the HO will work there fine - grommet and all.

Okay, I'll keep the rubber grommit from the original lower HO inlet and transfer it across to the replacement inlet when the time comes.
