Heres a crude image of the tweeters in my dash.

I have Alpine 171-A's at the minute, and have been frustrated in trying
to achieve optimum sound from that location. I like the sleepers look.

1st I had them angled a little toward each other, and at the windscreen toward the driver. And the sound stage was bright, and squashed, very limited. Almost sounded out of phase. Caused my ears to have that tight sensation you get with listener fatigue.

So I went back in, and as you can see from the diagram, I have now ever so slightly angled them to the sides, and toward the driver and screen.
This has opened up the sound stage dramatically, although you can still point to where they are in the sound stage, most instruments are appearing where there suppose to be. In the middle, and center of dash.
And the spaciousness with the rear fills has expanded a good deal. So if you turn your head slightly to the left for example, the dash tweeter on the RHS, mates with the LHS rear speaker brilliantly. Almost surreal with well recorded music. And seem to have lost some of the harshness associated with dash tweeters.

I'll give some more time and see how I like it a while longer. I think it's the best I'm going to get out that location.

Could be an answer for those who want to continue with the sleeper look, and possibly provide some kind of answer for getting a good result, sound stage wise.
Something to try anyway.

OH OK. I tried putting the tweets in the factory position but just did not work atall. Far better in the sail pannel. Been told that the a pillars are easier to mount in but.

Yeah I heard that.
I auditioned one tools Commodore setup, he had the new $600 Pioneers tweeters in the pillars, and jees they were bright. Just a bit too close my liking. I'll have to check out what the kick panel possy is like. But I have mine pretty sussed out now. A bit of time alignment tweaking and it should be all f**k' roses I hope.

I've got my tweeters mounted on top of the upper dash part, just forward of the orignal mounting, in pods that fire them towards driver/passenger
(they stick out like a sore thumb unfortunately).
Bright, but it suits my style of listening music perfectly.
I've never been in anyone elses car with a system leaned to SQ (a large proportion of my mates love there 15" subs), so I can't really compare.

i dot mine in the doors custom pods (gallery)angled at the head rests works well only problem is if there is a passanger in the car there knee blocks the tweeter a bit

i wanted mine outta the way and kinda outa view.. just put em on the kick panels.. i think theres a pic in my gallery
