Hey all,
I've got an 99 AU Forte, with smartlock/shield (its the old style remotes, but has smartshield stickers on the windows) and now and again I've noticed it do something strange - when I press the remote - either to unlock or lock the doors (mostly noticable on locking them), the blinkers flash several times - like 5 or 6. Not the 1 or 2. Can't seem to find any reference anywhere to what might be causing it....anyone? Its only occasionally, but still like to know what the problem is (especially if it might get worse and lock me out or something!)
Thanks

What does the ignition key look like? The smartshield equipped cars have a thicker and squarer plastic key base.

the key changed before the remote. they changed the keys in the 6/1999 but the remotes stayed as the 2 button types until 3/2000.
do your doors actually lock? there could be a problem with one of the locks

Are all your doors closed? Mine does that (and the horn beeps a few times) when one door isn't closed properly, whilst locking the car.
