Ok guys I am going to replace all of my hydrolic lifters this week can anyone give me tips on what to do and what not to do? eg. how do I prime them properly first? and do I keep the shims as another thread says you dont get new ones with the new tappets?

Block up your oil galleries so you dont drop stuff like lifters down them. Use Rags.

Tape up each of the lifters after you have loosened the rocker train.

Fit new retainers and if you can fill them with oil before refitting them.

Make sure the pressureised oil galleries remain clean and unblocked.

And remember to take the rags out of the oil gallaries before putting the engine back together and going for a test drive

get a tub of engine oil and squeeze the lifter in the oil to suck up the oil.

Hey Bob,

What's this cruise on SUN? Where is it, start time etc?

How's your car? Are you keeping it or buying another one?

keep the shims of the old lifters incase you want to grind your cam. That way you won't have to pay for new shims

Thanks to all those who gave advice on how to replace my tappets. The whole job was a success and took about 3 hrs. It sounds sweet and I recon I may have picked up a KW or two and the throttle response is heaps better aswell. So I will see you on sunday Uglybob and not a noisy tappet in sight!!!
