due to an engine bay fire I have to replace some wiring (small loom going to CC, brake, o2, PS switch and wiper motor).....it is damn near impossible to get near any of the wiring up under the drivers side of the dash....
I thought if i partially remove the dash it would be a lot easier to get at it all... is there some main bolts holding the entire unit in place?

remove all of the s/wheel, cluster, stereo etc - there are 5 bolts under the top section of the dash, one each under the 2 kick panels, and 2 behind where the stereo sits. remove the lower 2 nuts from the steering column, and the dash will 'lift' off as such - then you need to undo all the plugs
easy!

The Climate Control doco gives a good breakdown of how to do it. There is a separate bolt that attaches the earth lead near the windscreen - don't forget it as it makes a good bungee cord otherwise . .

Engine bay fire hey!! I was up against this just over 12 months ago in my EB Ghia. Took the opportunity to also do a V8 conversion
Post up some progress pics if you get a chance. If you do a search for 'Firey Fairmont' there should be a rundown of what I went though, with pics and all.

You do NOT need to remove the entire stereo and fascia surrounding it or the cluster. I have had my dash out at arm79's about three times...soon there will be a forth. And it takes about 30 mins and you will need two people too lift the dash of the supporting tabs near each door.

First time it's hard and will take ages. after that, it becoems a quick and easy job. Even did it by myself once - but I'd prefer a secnd set of hands for help - it's heavy.
