hey guys
i think my timing chain is about to go and im jus wonderin if anyone has done it before, on their own.. if ya have is it a b**ch to do..or would i be better off goin to a mechanic?? and how much if anyone knows...??? thanx guys

timing kits seem to be under $100 - new chain, guides and gaskets. what's involved seems to be to remove the belt and harmonic balancer, remove timing cover and rocker cover.
but to refit might have to raise engine slightly and drop sump to get the timing cover back on.
i ended up paying to have mine done, wasn't cheap, but didn't have time to try it with 7 days a week work...

its a b**ch to do, you dont need to raise the engine but if you have an ED or earler without the rubber sump gasket, forget it unless you want continual leaks. Its fun trying to scrape all the old gasket off the block with the water pump and other crap in the way. There is soooo much room in there to do it.......NOT!

Take the radiator out to give you more room.
I know its more work but in the end it much easier.

thats a valid point, but I didnt think it was going to be such a pain untill I was half way through the job
