I'm experiencing a vibration noise that I would guess is coming from the tail shaft. It only happens at about 66 kph and is gone over 70 odd kph.
This only started happening when I put a new diff and ultra lows in the back of my EF. Originally it had Super lows with the standard 3.08 diff, and it had no noise then. I was told the diff I bought was out of an EL XR8 (its a 3.23 or 3.27 ratio.) I've done some research and it seems that EL had different upper control arms and also had three different mounting points on the upper control arm bracket on the diff, my diff only has one. Is there anyway to find out what exactly my diff is out of (EF or EL) I've bought a set of EL upper control arms but haven’t fitted them yet, and don’t want to unless its going to fix the problem.. Is it also possible that because I'm running ultra lows that the tail shaft angle is going to be a problem no matter what I do. Any help would be great Cheers |

Firstly I would measure the distance betweem the bolts on your upper arms and the new ones to see if there is any difference and if there is will it improve the axle/tailshaft angle. If it does then I would do the changeover.
There should be a tag on the diff cover plate that may give you a part number you couls chase or can you get the supplier of the axle to look at the compliance plate of the car its out of to confirm its heritage. Hope this helps some.

wont be driveshaft more like incorrect pinion angle due to lowering.

In which case the EL arms will fix the issue (if it really is an EL diff).

Thanks, Its an 94AD, so I guess its the right one for my car. Do you think putting the EL upper control arms will help with the diff angle at all, or not worth worrying about.

Dont u read what people tell u in these posts. Measure the dam things and see if they are different. That would tell u something. Everybody here is willing to give time and effort, but u must at least try what u have been told. God and Fordmods only help those who are willing to help themselves.
Where did you find the 94AD on the tag on the axle??????????????? Then why not ask if the 94AD was EL or not. Come on get with the program.

Take some of your own advice, altedxr6 has already posted that the 94AD is off an EF, and 96AD is of an EL. So what would I archive in measuring them. Of course they are different. We already know that EF and EL have different length upper control arms. If you have another read, what I'm asking is that if I put the EL control arms in on a EF Diff does anyone know if that will compensate for the ultra low springs I'm running. If you don’t have anything constructive to add, please don’t. |

The EL upper control arms are shorter than the EF so you will have more problems if the diff is an EF, what you can do is retain the EF control arms and drill new holes the diff mounting bracket to adjust the pinion angle correctly. You can also get hold of the diff hat from a EL as the watts link mounting is lower changing the roll center for the better.

Well if you knew that they were different and by how much you could work it out for yourself as if it would fix the problem. You would be able to work out if they increased or decreased the angle of the axle to shaft .
Not rocket science really, just have to measure angles and use common sense. It is also an idea to find out what part number you need before going to the wreacker etc to make sure you are getting the correct part in the first place. Saves a lot of time and trouble. Anyhow I hope you solve your problem and enjoy your lowered Ford

Try having a look at some EF Tickford upper arms too, I've heard they are longer. If they are, it could be the solution to get your pinion up without drilling the diff.
