*sigh* I dont like standard idles, I love my stage 3 idle. The only bad thing about it, is that copper on the weekend was having a damn good look at me as I was giving way to traffic.

there will soon be an other one on the road too. both my stg1 and stg3 cams got here today. (although no shims with them) lucky i have a spare set of ford ones that i'm hopeing will be the right size. the stg1 is going in the current engine cos i'm bored with it and thought why the hell not.
the stg3 is going in the new engine. 7000RPM BABY...... i'll post a sound clip when it's built. on a side note. my billet steel flywheel and harmonic ballencer will be on the way tomorrow.

My shims went missing in the post too! Australia Post must of taken the end cap off (with the shims in the end) and just taped up the end :(

You can read the camshalt install guide on the ALTED website and see if you think you can do it ... and nope, you don' need tuning afterwards, but its always best to have a check and tune with ING timing.

But If you go ahead with it, Get it Dyno'd andpost up ya RWKW!

I has a rather confusing chat to my mechanic today...

I mentioned to him that I was considering a performance cam, and he told me outright not to do it!

He said that EF motors are largely un-moddable, and that I would only get any real benefit out of a cam if I also had some serious head-work done!

Plus he said the labour costs to fit it would be astronomical!

Bit of a surprise really, because he's always been great, and honest with me!

What do you think?

No, I don't think he knows the EF motor's that well, Lots of people (including my self) had put the alted cams into EF or EF XR heads and got a performance increase by heaps! The heads flow really well as a standard head,

What did he say it would cost to fit a cam? out of interest? .

Didn't give me a figure, but said it would be lot of time & labour = big bucks!

He also said that some pal of his who runs a performance place called "PSI performance", Wangara WA, said that it would have to be a radical cam with chip to get a decent return in kW's!

Talking on the phone with Jase today, about DC Todd, and apparently his EF XR6 responded better to the stage 3 cam than the EL XR6 did.

I'm starting to wish I had an EF ;)

Maybe.

I would do it myself, but I've never pulled apart a motor before ...and I'm worried I'll screw it up!

May have to find a more 'game' & less expensive mechanic, I think!

Really wish you guys were in Perth!

Any offers of a hand, you WA guys?
