Dad is looking at getting an AU Fairmont and converting to GAS. My qyuestion is do all the computers have the hardware to control the LPG system. Have seen documents that show the pinouts, etc but not whether this is universal for the series.

Replies greatly appreciated.

Before anyone says, yes I know about vapor and liquid injection - dad wont be interested and is after a cheaper option than these.

As far as I am aware the Au series only came out either Ulp or straight GAS not duel fuel. Last one that was factory fitted was the EL with Duel Fuel with the ECU that was setup with the tickford lpg system that had duel maps programed in (ulp/lpg).

Still can put LPG on the AU series but like all other cars wont get the added advantage of being controlled by the ECU.

Maybe could get LPG ecu out of e-gas falcon perhaps? but dont know how that would effect things while running on ULP

they can be dual fuel from factory or can have gas added afterwards

there will be a lpg ecu added to the car for when the car is on gas etc...

By the looks of things, although the AU series did not come out as a "factory" dual fuel setup the option still existed for it. The wiring diagram I have from another ford sight still has the ECU controlling the stepper motor etc.

May have to some more digging about.

Last tickford factory Dual fuel falcon was the AUII. AUIII and up is either straight gas or straight ULP.

You can get an aftermarket LPG setup that is similar in operation to the tickford setup. The only difference is it uses a separate LPG computer for the stepper motor. The factory tickford setup all ran off the EEC5.

On a side note any car can be converted to dual fuel ULP/LPG. There is even an aftermarket converion kit for the BA and BF falcon's now. I've seen many dual fuel BA taxi's and they go pretty darn good.

as said auII came with dual fuel, it was an option along with straight gas or ulp, auIII and up only one or other.

you can have any falcon running on gas, to get it going like a tickford setup get a good system, like impco, aftermarket vialle etc

these cost around the $2500, max, mark drive in drive out all new parts.

deer park motor wreckers on western highway near caroline springs, pick a part so you'll need tools, normally very cheap, but no real warranty like ftg. had 2-3 au's last time i went.

Thanks for that, just that I am at the opposite side of the city in Cranbourne. May have to "pop" in when I go to Ballarat. Thanks for that one, Robert

I think i have an AU tickford dual fuel ecu in my hand from a taxi numbers are WR2T-12A650-SB and it's an EEC-V. I was going to upgrade my s**t gas set up from new oakleigh motors fitted new 10 years ago but now I want to get sequential gas injection and put the economy and power through the roof. I just discovered the new Tartarini system check out the site www.vags.net.au
I am off to talk to my local agent/installer to see if it can be fitted to the old EF. I believe that the improvements will pay me back within a year and get the car running like new

That is great, makes sense that they would use a "special" ecu. Whether the functionality is inbuilt and "hardwired" for operation is something only those who have "the edit" will be able to tell.

the AU had a dual fuel option infact I have a sprint gas system in my AU3 and with a bit of modification I have the factory switch so it looks factory fitted (you need the gauge to be connected to the cars gauge not the LED gauge) i had to put the front of the factory LPG swithc on the back of an EL heated rear window switch to get this to work
