So I am halfway through changing my rotors today, when I removed the old one to find it is an ABS rotor....

Lucky for me I bought two non-ABS and two ABS (the ABS were orginally going to uglybob).

So I look up the good old gregory's manual to find what an ABS equiped car would have. So I poke my head under the left hand front wheel arch hoping to see an ABS ECU, but what do you know there is none there...

That means Ford (last people to service the rotors) have put the wrong rotors on....

What damage has this caused??

Is it going to cause any issues if I put the non-ABS rotors on?

Please anyone gimme some help!!!

putting ABS rotors on NON-ABS cars is common place for FORD as it is no the only option listed. i.e. both rotors do both cars.
they are only interchangable this way though, you cant put non abs rotors on a ABS car

In the absence of an ABS system - no. Unsure on price differential...

Same price (*nods to Hightek Brakes)

$99. So as long as I cant see an ABS ECU, chances are I dont have ABS and can fit ther non-ABS rotors??

if there is no ABS pump in the left wheel arch you should be safe to say you dont have ABS. so you would be safe to use either of the rotors you have there. there would be no benefit to using one over the other.

is there a
abs sensor on the upright?
abs unit in left wheel arch?
check abs light when starting car?

if no to all three no abs on your car, and you can use either rotor.

You wont see it unless you remove the plastic inner guard liner.

The easiest way to tell if the car is equiped with ABS is to take a look at the master cylinder. If is got 3 pipes coming out of it, it doesn't have ABS.

abs rotors have a slotted plate behind the disc and a magnatic sensor off the stub axel assembly, no magnetic sensor no abs. you wont see the magnetic sensor as it fits behind the centre of the rotor but there should be a visible wire running from rear of the stub axel.

If the Ford Manual was as cheap and as readily available as the Gregory's manual, I am certain to have one on my book shelf. Until Ford decide to mass re-produce the EF/EL Ford Factory manual, at sell it at cost-price, I am more than happy to receive some information from a semi-reliable source than have none at all.

Cheers guys.

So then does Ford actually use a non-ABS rotor, or will the majority of non-ABS equiped cars be running on the ABS rotor?

i don't think ford make any non-abs rotors anymore, don't quote me on this.
so therefore any car serviced by ford and has disks replaced will have abs rotors fitted.
no harm in doing this what so ever.
