Hi, Can anyone help me out here.. not really sure what the following means..
These codes can be deciphered by using the format, # 1/2 Second On Time for Each Digit, # 2 Seconds Off Time Between Digits, # 4 Seconds Off Time Between Codes, # 6 Seconds Off Time Before and After the 1/2 Second separator pulse. I am trying to use a multimeter and get voltage fluctuations but its very hard trying to work out if its a 1/2 second on(meaning start after that) or count the 1st fluctuation then wait 6 seconds .... what should i use on the multimeter? resistance? volts? and where does the seperator pulse come into it? is that line 1 and line 4? ...sorry if I'm not making much sense but when I try to count the pulses it doesnt match whats in the tech guide Thanks for any assistance...Mick.. EEC-V Self Test Modes The EEC-V Self Test Connector, inside the Cabin Fuse Panel The Self Test Codes can be read using either a Multimeter, or an LED, and consists of a number of Pulses outputted on the Engine STO Pin, and the Vehicle Diagnostic connector (The STO Out Pin is the 5th Pin from the left, on the upper row). These codes can be deciphered by using the format, # 1/2 Second On Time for Each Digit, # 2 Seconds Off Time Between Digits, # 4 Seconds Off Time Between Codes, # 6 Seconds Off Time Before and After the 1/2 Second separator pulse. |

I thought you could only do this on the EEC-IV?

Depends which implementation of EEC-V. EF and EL use the EEC-IV method of diagnosis. Multimeter voltage dude. Easier to use an LED IMO...

Thanks for the replies..not sure about iv or v, this is on a 6/98 el six cyl
ok..so I'll make up a lead with some kind of indicator light on it, but when the pulses start, do i count from the very 1st pulse or is that a seperator pulse? |

Just be sure to use an LED. A globe will draw too much current and fry the circuit...
