I'm pretty sure anticlockwise is advancing it which will lean it out
Forgot to mention though it must be in test mode by shorting the top left and top right pins of the connector......then you have about 2 mins to adjust. Have you not got a timing light? |

Yeah sorry Vic, or you can just do top left pin to earth, then start the car, it'll rev up then calm down, then you make your adjustment

That answers my question too thanks guys, I've been told that my "clutch bearing" noise is really my lifters? or tappets(cant rember which one he said) from it being advanced to much.
I'm guessing when we pulled the motor out we did remove the cap and leads so I guess when they went back on they weren't put on in the same spot. |

Advancing the timing won't make the tappets/lifters noisy (or lean the engine up by any noticably amount either), it can however result in pinging under load (if too advanced) or poor fuel economy and power (if retarded too much).

looks like it might be the clutch then be cause it only makes noise under load and when above 1/2 on the temp gauge, I'll check the timing on the weekend anyway.

If its under load and when its hot it sounds like it could be pinging. My car has a blocked radiator and cooks itself on hot days or when idling in traffic, and every now and again if I give it a gutfull it will ping. Has stopped now after timing was set back to 30 degrees.
I'd get your timing right before making any other assumptions cause it could just be pinging |
