Hey all,

I've not long had my au tonner and im happy with it, its just the rear suspension is way to hard! Its a real spine buster going over speed humps. Can anyone give me some legal tips on softening teh ride and maybe dropping it an inch or 2? I do want to keep it all above board so i get to keep my insurance! So any advice here would be greatly appreciated!

i guess you can't have the best of both worlds, can't have sus that carries a tonne and then expect it to be really comfy. i'd be saying if you start playing with it your going to loose some or a lot of your carrying capactity, so the question is do you use it? do you carry heavy crap?

I wouldn't of thought legalities would bother you!

Nup he dont use the 1 tonne carrying capacity.

If you don't use the 1 tonner capacity, order a set of King Spring lowered leaf springs (don't risk using blocks), get a new set of shorter shockies (for the lowered sus) - dunno how fancy you want to go. and swap them over. and lower the front to match! should look sweeeeet!
will handle better and be more comfortable, i'd be saying that the 1 tonner sus is probably hgiher than a standard ute and the springs probably have more leaves in them aswell than standard.

There's about 7 leaves in the 1-tonne AU rear springs.

The problem with the 1-tonner is that you need to retain the capacity and also same type of springs ... you can get them reset lower ... but not that easy for the 1-ton springs.

Also when it comes to upgrading wheels and tyres you must retain the 1-ton capacity as well.

Cops have been cracking down on this lately ... mainly with hiluxes that have been turned into minitrucks ... I have had a cop look at mine. Luckily mine doesn't have the 1-tonner suspension so I acn lower it more and put standard road tyres on it (unlike having to retain Cargo tyres).

Your best bet ... sell the ute and buy one that has the sports suspension from factory ... you have your hands tied in regards to so many legalities.

All I can say is thank god I got an XLS with the sports suspension.

yeah, but it's different state to state, just couse the cops are cracking down on it in NSW doesn't mean anything about anywere else...
Just remove any 1 tonner stickers or anything and drop her!!!

Yeah thats the plan! I will be building a new tray and nope i dont and wont ever need to carry a tonne. I just like the style of a 1 tonner! I haven't had it long but the tray and rear suspension need to be done asap. That said, im thinkin of removing approx 3 or 4 leaves out of each side and replace them with small steel plates like on the XLS. I looked under a style side XLS yesterday and the springs look the same its just that they have 4 plates where i have 4 extra leaves? So would this be an easier way to go? Then id just lower the front a little to square it up!
