G'day, I've bought a set of wire wheels for my XW sedan. Although they fit over the studs, the wheel nuts will not do up. Anyone know of any easy way to fix this. I was wondering if there are any pitfalls in grinding 1.5 mm out of the outside edge of each hole? They were advertised as Ford, but must be something close. Any help would be appreciated.

How about it is illegal and will void your insurance... (at least in QLD) |

Pitfalls will include putting massive stress on your lugnuts, possibly to the point of failure, i.e. wheels falling off car. Common trap for HQ-HZ Holdon boys who try putting commode whore wheels on - they fit (kind of) and are less than 1 mm different, but you are stretching yer wheel studs sideways and taking the entire mass of the car on them, before you even start to think about rotational and torque stresses on top of an already stressed component....
Find some ford wheels and piss those ones off!!! Cheers,

slotting the holes???? i take it you're feeling suicidal?
either sell them, or take the slightly safer (though not necesarily legal) option of adapters

Thanks Guys,
I wasn't real keen on modifying them. I paid $700 for them off ebay. They were advertised to fit early Ford. The look awesome on the XW. I was hoping someone had an idea to save them, but even a spoke wheel mag specialist said sell them. They just may be Jag. I'll post a pic soon. |

if it is the aexact pcd and it just doesnt have a taper for the wheel nuts then you can get a countersunk bit and put in drill to bore it out , i would only do this if it was the exact pcd though , it could lift any chrome around there also

ok i read wrong , get rid of them as they are not suited to your car and leave negative feedback if he wont give money back , you bought something that wasnt what you paid for , consumer affairs may help ( dont know about private sales though ) or if you paid by paypal they could help

Ok Guys, I've done some homework. These rims are made by 'Appliance'. Apparently they were popular in the 70's in the States. These rims have a PCD of 115mm. A extensive search of the net finds that they fit;
Buick - Century, Electra, LeSabre, Regal, Riviera (some) '83-'89 Cadillac - Allante, most others '84-'89 Chevrolet - Celebrity '85-'89 Oldsmobile - Regency, Ciera, Cutlass, Delta 88 '84-'89 Pontiac - 6000 '83-'89, Bonneville, Grand Am '86-'89 At http://www.adaptitusa.com/index.asp?Pag ... ProdID=117 I found wheel adapters from the States. Any knowledge on the legality of these in NSW?

The falcons have a pcd of 114.3 * 5 Close, but not right!
