Hey guys,
Has anyone managed to try out the Optimax Extreme on the Dyno? What sort of improvements did you get? Peak power? I have seen a few dyno charts around, the turbo cars seem to take to it real Info on it here http://www.100octane.com.au |

Really depends on the car, octane increases alone will generally not give any power increase. The octane rating is basically a rating of how fast the fuel burns, or more importantly its resistance to pre-detonation. Higher octane ratings will allow you to run higher compression or more timing advance without pinging, thats where the power increase comes from, but unless you tune for it, it is next to useless (except as a safety buffer).

high performce imports did back to back testing of ethonol blended feuls.
using a skyline fitted with a power FC so tunning could be done. they found of 100% petrol the best AFR was around 12.2 open loop was disabled and the idle afr was set 14.7. drained the tank and filled it E10 premo. the idle afr went to 15.4 ish. and the idle was s**t house. they dyno'd the car and it loss about 20kw. after tunning the new best afr was 11.3 ish and with only the feul tunned and using the same spark map as befor the car still did not get all of it's power back. after tunning they found they could run more timming advance and ended up with more power. wich proves what i have always said in regards to E10 feuls. you need more of it to get the same results. |

Thanks for the replies guys.
Firstly the Optimax Extreme is a 5% ethanol blend, so the lean out effect would be half of that of the E10, and probably within the range of the ecu's tuning ability. Also, most of the ford I6's runs pretty rich from factory (not sure about the v8’s). So if you were to run 100octane, and increased ignition timing, you should see power gains. As for efficiency, I guess its a bit of a two sided argument. You need a richer mix to make more power, but if your engine is producing more power/torque, then you will require less right foot effort to do the same driving. Probably evens out in the end. |

I haven't tried it personally (don't know which servo has it) but one of my mates works at Subaru docklands, as a mechanic, and was able to use the 100 octane to gain around 30rwkw on his worked '96(?) wrx through extra boost.

my first dyno run was on optimax extreme and i got a power rating of 132.9 twice, and once 130.4...im yet to get it dyno'd with bp ultimate, but even then, ive got now 3 degrees more advancement and a xr6 ecu and no lean misfire, so who knows ...

i get pinging at higher revs (3500-4500) when running optimax, does anyone else have the same prob? And does optimax100 fix this prob? BPultimate, synergy8000 and vortex98 seem to go alright...so does that Ethanol Premium 98 and E10.
