Hey guys..
I'm looking at building a turbo engine and i've read that low to mild boost situations are achievable with a normal engine rebuilt with acl race series rebuild kits.. I've bene checking out the acl race series site ( www.aclperformance.com.au ) checkin out the ford 4.0L engine kits.. http://www.aclperformance.com.au/Ford4. ... ildKit.htm Just a few questions... I've been looking at the piston kits ( http://www.aclperformance.com.au/6MKRY9400.htm ) and under sizes it has: 0.5, 1.0 I'm guessing these are 5thou over std and 10thou over std? so will need to be bored out.. I've also heard that shot peened con rods are they way to go... any ideas where to get this done? engineering place where they do block machining should be able to get it done for me? and how much? So just to wrap it up for now.. How much, ballpark figures: Rebuild Kit? (visted repco today and they had to ring acl (acl ont open saturday)) Cylinder Bore + Hone? Conrod shotpeening? |

yes the .5, and 1 would be 5and 10th over bore
depending on your state of the current engine will determine if the bores need to be bored out and then honed shotpeened rods are good as it leaves a "protective" skin around the rods and is achieved by shooting small ball bearing at high speed at the rods also a full bottem end balace is a good idea will make the engine spin faster and easier any decent engine shop should be able to do or tell u were to get all this done you are best off talking to a a engine shop who do rebuilds and ask them what is the best way to go ie how much boost u going to run? 6 psi be fine on normal compression but any more u will want to look at lower comp pistons etc

race series rebuild kit for the 4.0L I6 is around $800-$900
comes with pistons/rings/bearings. And a cool sticker. dont know about shotpeening, but i got quoted $500 from an engine shop to do the following: fit pistons to rods hot tank block bore 10 thou over hone the bores fully balanced the bottom end linish the crank

(made by mahle) really? i've never seen it on their site before...very interested. Do you happen to know if they have a rebuilt kit with these forgies? and if they are expensive?
