If anyone has forgotten the whole chassis is earth/ground on a car unless its positive earth. Basically groung the negative as close as possible to the amp with a secure fixture to a solid part of chassis steel.

thats right get a proper earth mount make sure its filed away so only bare metal is under the earth mount and make sure you use the same size cabling for the earth connection as the amps power connection.

You dont have to have it as close to the amp as possible but it will be safer and more efficient if it is ... but you dont want the earth cable to be longer that than amp power cable.
