When I picked this car up ('98 5.0L Fairlane) from the dealer, it was leaking coolant from the TB onto the rocker cover...I was told that 5.0L runs coolant around the intake for cold starts and that it'd need new gaskets...this was done, however it failed to fix the problem. I told them I would investigate if they were willing to cover the costs...I ended up finding a crack in the TB. Replaced the TB with a second-hand unit and all was sweet, no more leak...I took the mechanic for granted that there is meant to be coolant circulated in and around this area...I now find out that this is the EGR body and wondering what the heck coolant is doing in there...HELP? Is this normal ? If its meant to be exhaust gas, does that indicate a head gasket failure....cripes, just what I need. I also wonder if this is linked to the miss described in the mentioned forum...guys, I really need some help with this...starting to freak me out !!!

Coolant does not run up to the throttle body.
It is an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation).
You possibly have a gasket failure somewhere.

Check gasgets or just join the two hoses together..There's a chance corosion is in EGR ???

I just bypassed mine, no probs now. BTW coolant does run up to your throttle body, or for want of a better description the EGR mixer plate

Now I'm confused, is coolant meant to be there or not? Jaysen, when you say "no probs now", what problems were you having ?

Coolant is does not run through the throttle body it does go the EGR plate.

Well where the throttle body bolts onto the EGR plate, should there be coolant there...just trying to be a little more specific, because there was definitely coolant touching the TB and leaking out through a crack just below the ISC.

Well if the EGR has corroded and coolant is entering it, it's feasible that coolant is also reaching the TB and finding its way out (down the bottom where the throttle plate itself attaches).

Sounds like easiest solution is to join the two hoses together and tun EGR w/ no coolant...

I just bypassed mine for s**t and giggles, just run the hose from the heater lines that run on the rhs of the motor, straight on to the fitting that comes out of the lhs rear plug in the manifold

Mine also appeard to be leaking. I found the 2 metal tubes coming out of the TB were corroded. Per Jaysen's response. Simply bypass the TB and place the water tube from the front of the motor into the back left of the motor (per above). I believe the water is in the TB for assisting with cold starts and in icy conditions like the US.. Not really needed here..
