|
need help trying to replace water pump and cant get the bloody thing off, removed the belt and bolts but cant get the pulley off and that pipe sticking out of the back of the pump. any thoughts?

"cant know", cant put the old pump on anymore, tryed smashing it off with a hammer but still nothing, bloody b!@ch of a car plus i think of blown the head also!

the little pipe on the back of the pump should come off easily...its only a slight fit with an o-ring...

they can be jammed on because of rust and scale build up, you get one every now and then, just try to lever it off, may be safer to put the bolts back in half way and then giving it a go so you don't bend the pipe.

i done mine today, stupid question but did you take off the alternator bracket and all four bolts cos there is no way that o ring slip joint or gasket would stand up to a hammering even if it was rusted up

I did one a while ago, and the pulley is a pain to get off , you are best off to buy an new water pump with a pulley already installed.
as far as the pipe in the back it was easy to pull off but to get back on was difficult I had to remove the bracket that holds the pipe to the back of the engine to get more movement.. Dean Jorr

i didn't think so either but my cousins ef proved me wrong, ended up using an old tyre lever still took a few goes, this the first one thats given me trouble and i have done about 7 pumps so far, family and friends cars.

ok update!!!!!
Got the pump of with the hammer and no i didnt remove anything just gentle tapes with the hammer BUT couldn't get the pulley off so i'll have to buy a new one to fit it!!!!!

you should always buy a new pulley, preferably not the steel ones, they are plastic for a reason.
And please stay away from pumps that have a pulley already installed. From reading posts and gathering info, the only pumps worth concidering are Genuine Ford and PowerMax (Japan made).

yer no complants here from the power max pumps, i did notice the powermax has a diffrent set up to move the water

i replaced one with a powermax, and had to press a new pulley onto it.
they're a bloody tight fit though!

if you can afford it a genuine is the way to go, just a class above any aftermarket item in every aspect.
having said this i'am running a bursons pump, pre-attachted pulley, have had no problems yet, been about 30,000 k's.
