rofl well just off the fighting and a little of the octane topic.
Has anyone tried running there car on just propane? They actually have filling stations at a few of the gas plants/companies around victoria. A mate of mine tried this and said he found no difference, however his car has a f**k 202

i'd be inclined to say most differences noticed by running on striaght proppane would involve timing advancement to make the most of it.
similar to making the most of optimax in a car tuned for 92RON.

how does a mixture of PROPANE and BUTANE even have an Octane rating?
My knowledge of chemistry is f**k with me. Octane is formed of much longer carbon chains then propane and butane, how can you compare the two using one "octane rating"? Also, to add fuel (either gas or petrol.....get it? ) to the debate. My mates blown hemi charger made an extra 10rwkw when he switched from straight petrol to straight gas. Its all about tuning. Also, because my car riches out, it performes better with regular fuel than with premium until I enclose the pod (which I promise will happen soon).

Motor octane rating & Research octane rating Classically, both numbers are measured with a standardized single cylinder, variable compression ratio engine. For both RON and MON, the engine is operated at a constant speed (RPM's) and the compression ratio is increased until the onset of knocking. For RON engine speed is set at 600 rpm and MON is at 900 rpm. The octane number measured is not an absolute number but rather a relative value based on accepted standards. By definition, n-heptane has an octane number (RON and MON) of 0, while iso-octane (2,2,4-trimethyl pentane) is 100. Linear combinations of these two components are used to measure the octane number of a particular fuel. A 90%/10% blend of iso-octane/n-heptane has an octane value of 90. Any fuel knocking at the same compression ratio as this mixture is said to have an octane number of 90.

Warm regards! So you think unclewoja is correct by saying LPG has a lower octane rating based on the 2 links he provided? My point was that his post was incorrect.

From the first post I said the same thing, that he is in fact, incorrect. We both got carried away there, I agree with you that the comparasin unclewoja made is completely invalid and wrong. Shake hands and make up? |

Agreed ... cleared a few things up as well for me. Mind you the testing for the RON/MON levels is only done at 600rpm and 900rpm respectively ... now with cars that's just at idle ... wonder ahy they don't test it at higher revs where a car will mostly be used .. say 1500-3500rpm

Hi.
I am not sure if this is the place to ask this question however, could someone please tell me if it is possible and most importantly safe to convert a 4 cylinder Ford Escape to run on LPG as this vehicle travels long distances every week. I have been told that it is not a good idea as it could catch on fire, but I think maybe this gas installer just didn't want the job. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Fairman. |

No reason why most cars can't be converted to LPG... Especially a 4 cyl Escape which should have plenty of room unfer the bonnet... I'd definately get a second opinion!! Only reason it would be a fire hazard would be if the install was dodgy.

not sure on the 4cyl escape (didn't know there was one) but a guy at my work had a v6 one and it couldn't be converted to gas(apparently) as it has a plastic intake manifold which he was told may not survive if the system backfired. could be a similar reason with the 4 cyl.
