Well this could be a long story so i do appoligise in advance.
Some time ago i got an electric ariel, fitted it and dodged the wires so it would go up i.e. power and earth straight to the wires on the ariel.
after being so long fixed in the up position i finally got a switch and used the diagram i found here on somewhere and it blew fuses.

anyone got any ideas as to why this may be? could it be because of the switch? i am using a window switch out of an AU.

any help/suggeestions muchly appreciated

I'd say with a fair amount of confidence that you've not wired the power window switch properly - have a look at http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=69 and check with a multimeter which terminals are closed with the switch in various positions, then you can work out whether a certain position makes a short cct or not.
Unfortunately a short cct is the result of incorrect wiring.

Study fig 6 and understand how the power flows are reversed, and you should be able to figure out the internal contact positioning, then check the switch - you may have it wired mirror image (if that makes sense).

Yes, that's fine - saves you putting a joining link yourself.
Take on board what I've already said, and you'll figure it out.
