hey boys
i think i know the problem, but then again, im a noob to fords sometimes 1/10 i think there is something wrong with my fan belt. i got the belt brand new about 2 months ago at first i thought it was too loose, so when all that load is placed on it, it will just spin freely.. makes like a typical XF fanbelt noise.. but when i asked my uncle (machanic, but didnt fit it) he said they should be auto tightning... i have changed 2 pullies and still the same problem.. any1 had any experiences with this? |

i think he means that it sounds like the XF's as they used to have a habit of doing that! The belt on my EF (which i still haven't got round to replacing as it's cracked to s**t!!) is ribbed on the inside, i can't imagine an AU V8 belt not being similar. if it's like theat, i can't see how it would slip, unless it was WAAAAYY too loose

ok i didnt read properly i thought he was talking about an XF derr. the V8 belts look just like your 6 cyl belts, not too sure how the tensioner works on them though, havent seen one for a while

Actually you did read it properly...he didn't mention the vehicle type. Anyway dj, it's sounds like the tensioner might have gone south. It's the one that looks like a short arm with a pulley on it. How much deflection do you get when you push on the belt? Pete. |

Are you sure it's not just the wheels spinning?

im not sure what your saying but if you can hear a noise when its on load it may be your engine mount is broken and the torque is lifting the engine and fan is hitting shroud slightly
just maybe |

the noise could also be the traction control system (if it isn't a squealing noise) when you are accellerating hard off the line. Try turning the traction control off and then giving it a go.
On another note my BA wagon has had a slight belt slip since the day we got it, only when you are giving it a really hard time and you back off suddenly in first gear. |

nah it happens when traction control is off..
soz i have a au fairlane 5ltr lets say the noise is 'happening' if i keep the revs steady the noise continues.. if i press it more, the louder, but it duznt full stop unless i let go of the throttle compleatly (or put it into N) the belt feels fairly tight when i push down on it, how much should the slack be? roughly 3-5cms with normal force? soz about spelling its 3am just got home, smashed. |

being an au i belive its auto tensioner , if its loose the belt is had it if its a new belt the tensioner has packed it in. you should need to put a fair bit of force on the belt before you get much movement out of it. , even with a 3/8 drive breakerbar in the tensioner its still difficult to move it
