I'm trying to work out why the power window conversion costs so much. Does anyone have a basic price breakdown?
Also what are the specs on the winder motor? could it be replaced with an aftermarket one from jaycar or a wrecker? Thanks in advance |

are we talking about front power windows only or all four power windows
when you think about it, there is a fair bit of s**t you have to buy. 4 window regs (which are about $100 EACH brand new ). Then factor in the power window switch, looms, rear door trims etc

as fordz said
-4 x regs -nuts & bolts to mount regs -door trims -door window switches (rear) -centre window switch from there, you need to decide if you want to hardwire them straight to the battery, or do it the 'right' way - i.e. swapping looms. i had a 'mont wreck, so i swapped the body loom over (taillights forward to dash) - but people have also hardwired them to ther battery. one thing i'm not 110% about is if you swap the body loom, but your car was never equiped w/ power windows (eg mine was a futura so had front power windows already) my fuse panel was setup for power windows - not sure if a Gli would be able to operate them without messing with the fuse box, and/or swapping the dash loom. body loom requires the entire interior to be stripped out - not as hard as it seems. i managed to get it done in just over an hour. loom isn't too hard to unplug, just some of the ford plugs can be a***hole to undo. but its so worth it!

All fuse boxes for all falcons were the same AFAIK. My gli has provision in the fusebox for power windows aswell as all the other mod cons. They just didn't put fuses in the unsued circuits. Edit: When I say "all falcons" I mean of the same model. i.e fuse box for EF Gli is the same as for EF Futura. |

my fuse box had provision for the power windows, how ever it wasnt hooked up.
i had to run my own power line to get power for them. i've got a power window conversion for sale (4 motors, body loom, console switches, door looms) for $250. you'd just need some door trims. as said above, aftermarket power window motors are $100+, genuine even more.

i had to run my own power line to get power for them. thats what i was under the impression would happen even though there is a fuse panel there, you can't just plug it in to work. isn't there a relay too?

On fairmont's and above its the "accy" (accessory) relay. Futuras have just an un-named relay which powers the front power windows

For the rear door power windows to a Futura, you only need to add the fairmont rear door looms in lieu of the existing ones - pull the grommet and loom at the base of the rear door hinges, you'll find a plug in the cavity, unplug and replace. Otherwise, add the 3 wires needed.
