Start by trashing the heads and inlet manifold, go at least GT40P heads and explorer manifold, 65mm throtle body, a mild cam, and a chip to suit, you will notice a nice increase and a much better power band, the EB 5ltr engines are breathless to say the least, in that era, you were simply better off in an XR6, it was as simple as that, the heads and manifold are just too restrictive on your engine, a 30thou bore will give you even more, then when you get sick of your new increase, supercharge the F ER and live happely ever after! :-)

The V8 boss will set you back between 10 - 12K

There's debate whether the boss will fit into the engine bay, some say you have to knock out the shock towers for it to fit and a few have measured it up and say it fits. However, I am yet to see someone do it.

As for 351, yes they will fit, but need a few mods to get them to fit due to height of the deck/manifold etc. I'm pretty sure 347stroker and xr9ute have both done it as proof

If I was you i'd go for a change of heads, cam, throttle body, maf etc etc......should get you 180 - 190 rwkw, then if your still not satisfied go for the supercharger, heaps cheaper than the motorswap

Is that just the cost of the engine - assume there are heaps of $$ associated with fitting also?

Yeah that's generally ballpark figure for just the motor. Alot of the time you probably wouldn't get stuff like alternator etc with it.

I'd only hate to imagine how much someone would charge to try and put it in, or even how much time you could spend doing it yourself

I have just dug out my SVO catalogue (1999 edition) and it has the dimensions of the 4.6 in it. It is approx the same height as a big block and over 2.5 inches wider. The 5.4 is wider again and I would guess just as heavy as a big block.

The boss 260's go for about 7000 and do not fit without notching the strut towers

351w will fit in an EB without it sticking out the bonnet but you have to notch out some off the bonnet bracing under the bonnet.

They fit in an EL but not without something sticking out off the bonnet
