Where is the correct (factory) place to run the clutch cable on an EL? Is it behind or in front of the power steering rack?

My XH has it's original cable, and it bends back behind the RH engine mount, then goes under the two power steering pipelines (where they meet the rack)then it goes parallel along the top of the steering rack, then bends and goes across to the bellhousing. IIRC the cable has a P clip type arrangement attaching it either to the front crossmember or the steering rack. The XH setup should be the same as EF/EL.
Someone might be able to prove the official setup out of the ford manual.
