I feel like a bit of an idiot asking this but being the owner of a Concord for the last 3 years, can anyone tell me exactly what the mechanical difference is to a std ghia. I've been told that the Concord has the same motor as an XR6. is this correct. If not then what is the difference.

Has the motor got a red rocker cover?

Yeah, tickford enhanced engine i believe... power slightly behind that of an XR6 - due to the exhaust on there IIRC....
http://www.fastlane.com.au/Reviews/Concorde.htm Might give you some insight

should have a tickford motor, and 3.45 LSD if the motors a tickford it should have a big T stamped in the head, unless its and 8 then only difference is the 3.45 lsd

should have a red rocker cover, which means an xr6 engine. the concorde has tickford enhanced suspension over a normal ghia, that about it. but i have yet to find another fairlane I6 that will keep up with me.
