gday all
im currently looking at purchasing a 98 nissan pathfinder (auto) which i took for a test drive today, now i know it isnt a falcon, courier or a ford for that matter. but i thought someone out there with a fair bit of knowledge about transmissions could shed some light on some questions of mine... problem is i took it for a drive and it was perfect except the gear changes weren't very smooth, going from 1st to 2nd was the worst, it felt as it was getting shoved into 2nd and gave the car a little jolt..... Drove past a tranny place got the dude to take it for a drive, recons it could have been rebuilt, and apparently after getting rebuilt they make the shifts a little firmer? (cant remember for what reason) but other than that recons its not slipping or anything.. some questions.. - if it hadn't been rebuilt could it be a sign of the tranny beginning to fail? - any downfalls to buying a car with a rebuilt tranny? - anyone who had their tranny rebuit experience firmer shifts afterwards? - are trannys stronger after being rebuilt? cheers guys, any help would be awsee and apoligies for the longish post

No the transmission should be pretty smooth. Most transmissions from 98 arn't as advanced as the ford 4 speed and my give an occasional 'firm' shift but it shouldn't make a thump noise or vibrate the car or anything.
My advice, give it a miss. If it's a great price then it's too good to be true. Plenty of other pathfinders out there.
