hey all

well, took the car for a drive to get lunch today - its 39oC here at the moment, and the a/c felt like it was just blowing coolish air around - not icy cold (with the a/c max on, full-bore). now what i want to know is, am i being too tough on the car, or should it be blowing icy cold air into the cabin at that rate? cause i reckon it bloody-well should be! :P

Well it was 36oC here today in the Gold Coast and my air con kepot cutting out.

I would have to put it on Spped 4 then take it down to 2 then it would keep cutitng out.

Could it be anythihng mechanical or was it jsut too damn hot to operate properly?

well thats when it needs to be working at its best! :P i have been suggested by my mate (whos a mechanic) it could be the heater tap - so might replace that just in case - its only a $20 part from his w/shop, so might do it as well. then the re-gas, and that *should* hopefully sort it all out... cause i want it to be like a bloody freezer in there during summer - tied in with the new radiator, there is no reason why it shouldn't be...

i think mines the same, gotta have it on full boost to get anything decent. Let me know how the heater tap thingy goes.
The only thing that made mine feel better was riding in azza's the other day, no cool air at all

My ED is very average, I had it regassed 8 months ago and it is just, maybe coping with the heat out side.

Any suggestions or is that as good as it gets.

I know the air con systems in the new cars are a lot more effecient, but it is nothing like the new ones.

well if u have to re gas ur system then that means its been leaking and theres a leak!

if the ac is cutting out then there is a reason for that usually because pressure gets to high either because to much gas or faulty switch.

also when re gassing ur system i find that all ac systems work better if u put a little less in than what they reconmend eg if its 600g then put in about 550g

put your air con on recycle and run it at a slower speed and then measure your temp after a few minuts of driving it should be well below 5 degrees.
if its on fresh air and boost the air going through the evarorator won't have time to cool and seem not as cold

good call. put it on recirculate and itll be much better.

Im the same as twirquirky but. my aircon wont work if its not on boost. however its been doing that for ages, even before it got above like 25 degrees. but i can live with full boost on recirc. works good for me.

My Fairlane was doing similar things, it just didn't seem to be getting cold.

Had a bit of a tinker with the thermostat, turns out when I had the system last flushed they had put a 92C thermostat in. I changed it to an 88C one and instantly the car ran cooler, and the aircon seems to be working tons better.

I plan to change it again to an 82C one just after christmas for the bad summer heat.
