I have been told my transmission oil needs flushing (auto 4 speed EL). to do this would it be best to go to a specialist, and what other things do you recommend being done to it at the same time. The engine is stock so no upgrades will be needed. also, can anyone in Hobart, Tasmania recommend any good places?

if you tow or do alot of k's get an supplementry tranny cooler, will extend the life of the tranny.
other than that just make sure they use decent oil, just a recognised brand.

Thanks, is it essentially an oil change, or are other things done as well?

about 2 litres of oil are changed as well as the filer in the tranny
to get the full oil changed u need to have a transmission oil flush which costs a fair bit more due to the fact of more oil is used to flush the tranny out

what exactly is happening to the tranny as your subject says tranny service but the post says tranny oil needs flushing.
tranny flush, replace all the oil in tranny, total capacity 11litres, but about 15 is used in the procedure. $250ish, much better for it if it hasn't been serviced regularly. service just drop pan fit new filter and refill, only 4 litres.$100ish

I had mine flushed recently - $150 at the ford dealer. Well worth it. Corrected my hesitant shifting problem....

try to avoid tilfords. i think $185 trade price for an oil change, bit of coolant and headlights adjusted (OVER 2 DAYS - it was there by 8am, couldn't be ready by 5:30pm....) isn't worth it. they didn't fix any other problems i was having so i'll just get the parts and do it myself.
anyway, try automotive automatics - grandfather had the old XT done there regualry, if not try your local mechanic, they should be able to flush it. if you haven't got a local, PM me for a list of top guys!

I usually go to Dawes Automotive in Moonah, they seem to do a good job. i was wondering if it would be better to take it to an automatic specialist?
