Here's a hard one peoples.
I need to isolate as much noise from the engine bay as I can. I know there is a laminated fire wall, I think it's in the AU, but how would I go about insulating my firewall without taking out the dash or engine. I want to really quieten this car down and need some tips on doing so. Thank-you. |

Some sort of fireproof deadening?
Underbody-type paint on stuff? It's tricky without ripping the engine out of there though... Maybe more sound deadening on the bonnet too would help? Dare I ask the plan/reasoning?

You could try removing the front seats, carpet and console then putting some sound deading mat on the floor and as high up under the dash as you can.
A mate did this to his HZ, it was significantly quieter afterwards.

I want to quieten the interior up as much as possible, upgrade the stereo, and make the interior a much nicer place to be

a carpet underlay on the floor will get rid of a lot of road noise. Your doors are a noisy place - but they also get wet so you can't really put much in there. If you did put an underlay in the doors it would hold moisture and encourage some serious rust. The futura's and above have a fireproof underlay on the engine bay side of the firewall. That would be tricky to put in without moving the engine. - Could be possible? If you do manage let me know as I wouldn't mind doing it.

Lol, least you don't have a driver's door with screwed up seals. Sounds like I'm parachuting from a plane at 100km/h. Bloody door sag!

hmm sounds like a plan, I've been looking for ways to get rid of the engine noise in my EF. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread. Uncle said he had this special spray-on stuff that you spray the outside of the firewall with that's supposed to deaded sound like he did in his XH ute, it's like a tar spray or something. nfi where to get it from though.

I got some spray on sound deadener from Super Crap a couple of years ago for a car i had it worked quite well. Cheap stuff so usually worth a shot.
