This is actually posted on behalf of my dad who has the occasional oil pressure issues. Its a 1998 fairlane ghia. the oil sender unit as been replaced, so has the pump and filters etc. Basically the problem only happens on hot days only with the air con on and only at idle.
The oil pressure light comes on when at idle on hot days with air con on, as soon as you drive oof pressure builds up again and the light turns off? any ideas of what the hell would cause this? perhaps heat thinning out the vescosity of the oil??

What grade of oil is your dad using? Maybe he needs to change to a thicker oil, especially if the engines done a few K's

check what the alternator output is like under full load, i had the same problem and it was the alternator. mine would only put out 10.8v when hot on a warm day with a/c on and at idle!
