Hi
I've got a 351C in an XC GS ute. I wouldn't say the GS Oil pressure gauge is the most precise instrument in the world, but in general when the engine is hot and ute moving the gauge is at half way, at idle when hot the gauge is 1 or 2 ticks above zero. Drove to Ford day yesterday, one hour down the highway at 100Kmh. Got to Geelong and at idle oil pressure was nothing - needle didn't even move out of the red. At speed (anything over 5Kmh) needle went back to half way. Same story on the way back. Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance Laurence |

if your concerned try a different gauge.

It should never get to zero, even when idling. Your oil could just be old and thin. If it is good oil I'd say you big end bearings are on there way out. Thats exactly what happened to the Clevo in my old XD ute. A new set of bearings, rings and gaskets all round and it was good as new. Only a couple hundred bucks of parts but lots of time.
How long since it's been rebuilt ????

the old ford gauges are pathetic.
in my xe, it drops down low at idle after a good highway run or a long hard strap through the back-streets for 20 minutes. I probably should get a gauge on it, but i know for a fact these gauges aren't that accurate.

I got the same problem. It hits halfway or moves between zero and 1/4
I think it is contributing to my lifter noises which seem to come and go. But I think the oil leak I have might not be helping. I was told you can buy a gauge or get a mechanic to conect a gauge under the bonnet after removing the oil pressure switch ??? and they get check your oil pressure bypassing your oil gauge on the dash. I have also been told new bearings, gaskets etc prob need changing considering I have the oil leak. Hope this helps and if anyone has more info or tips regarding oil pressure or lifter noise drop me a message. I have tried different oils with mixed results. |
