The battery light in my AU fairmont keeps flicking on every now and then. it will come on for about 5 seconds, then go off and come on again a couple of days later, or do it a few times in a short trip etc - very random.

When it does come on the most it has stayed on for is 5-10 seconds. the battery guage still says its charging good and doesn't change when the light comes on/off and the car is never hard to start, so im a bit confused as to why the light is coming on and if i should check some things might be playing up/on their way out?

so the light comes on even when the guage is showing a healthy reading?

maybe the belt is slipping...

if the gauge drops down a bit in that time, your alterator is crook

well could be a few things, one the wires to the light are shorting, there is a loose alt battery connection, the alternator is not always charging. if it continues then i would check first loose connections of main wires eg alt batter body earth's ect, then go to smaller problems. check wiring diagrams, does the light get switched on from the alterator or by a controk modual

Check the brush length on the regulator too. Should be two screws and the whole thing comes out. Be SURE to disconnect the battery when doing this, as the contacts C**k to one side during removal and will short out something.

it won't be 2 screws if it's a mitsubishi alternator.
you have to split those alternators to check them.
