the speedo gear from ford is like $12 for the 3.45:1. simple swap, grey in colour i think it was? i paid $200 for my ef 3.45:1 diff. it had 3 months warranty with it but when i put it in it was whining. i thought i may as well get the centre done on it for $450 then return it and pay $700 for another second hand one from another wreckers (reason being i picked it up for $200 was the guy had no idea what it was!!) anyway at the end of the day it worked out good.
i used redline fully synthetic oil too. your right its not every day you change the bloody diff oil!

All you get is one plastic cog with 22 teeth on it.

The cog is in the extention housing for the tranny/gearbox. It's not too hard to change if you can get under the car.

is your friend giving you his whole diff or just the LSD centres?

If its teh whole diff then just do the swap yourself, is easy.

Another thing, try and get an ECU to match the diff ratio (or as close as you can). The ECU decides to have fun with the shift points when you change the speedo gear. I actually lost time down the quarter changing to 3.45 from 3.23, as it now shifts into 3rd just before the end of the line.

That or whack a 5 speed in.
