When im reversing, for about a second it makes like a low pinched whining noise like somthing is grinding or winding up almost, and then it stops.

Also there seems to be alot of play in my driveline somwhere, just isnt smooth, and no its not the diff, or uni's, think it could be somthing to do with the box?

is my box on its way out?

Thanks

Dude,

The low pitched whining noise is probably your power steering pump if it only happens in the first 30 seconds or so of running. They all make the noise in the first couple of seconds of operation, so don't worry about it. The reverse gear in the box has a bit of whine, but that is fairly normal too.

The box is noisy in that car......but has a lot of life left in it, assuming that you don't thrash the s**t out of it too much.

As for free play, don't know where you are coming from there. Falcons traditionally suffer from a bit of excess backlash in the drive train, but again, that is not unusual.

As for the play in the transmission, don't rule out a dodgy pedal box - just found out that's what i've got... the pivot point isn't constant and that makes the whole system a bit loose apparently which can cause a sort of "feedback" kick when letting out the clutch as the drive train catches up with the engine.
