Has anyone ever bought a reconditioned engine from HM GEM Engines?
If so are they any good?

Personally I wouldn't touch them. Fitted plenty over the years, and was far from impressed with the quality.
At work we call them Hit & Miss engines...

i worked thir for 4 years and thir allrite but thir was a lot of problums with them but i still think thir good rebuilders.

I was offered a reco 351 , built by Gem. What are some of the problems you have come across with V8 reco's?

oil leaks, cam timing issues, big end on rods out of round, they are just for replacing standard non enthusiast applications.
for any performance type of work you should atleast blueprint it

I bought a 4.1 6 cylinder for an 1980 xd from HM Gem Engines
got my mechanic mate to fit it. Prob only did about 5000-1000km
before i sold the car to my cousin who did about 5000km more then he sold it and that guy added about another 5000 and now my cousin bought it back from him and still goes good. So its probably done around
anywhere from 10,000-20,000km. I sold the car about 3-4 years ago so cant remember the exact km's. Shop around and word of mouth is probably your best bet.

i had the 4.1 in xf repalced with one,,the only problem they had with it was it wouldn't idle and the rocker cover gasket,,it went bloody good to

my old man had one put in his ea back in the day. after six months it dropped a cyclinder. did a comp test no. 4 or 5 cant remeber it was that long ago had nothing and 4 others where sitting on about 100 only one was on 150.
thats from memory could be a bit off. but it was bad
