Well it's in, and running well.
First off, BIG BIG BIG thanks to arm79, for doing 99% of the work (I did 8/12 of the valve springs ). Another thanks to brett477 for finding my rocker cover stud "It must have fallen on top of the trans, we'll have to jack it up... err, this wouldn't be what your looking for would it?" So, what's it like? First impression, as noted by everyone standing in arm79's garage was 'idles smooth'. Lifter noise was gone after a couple of runs around the block, chased by the screeching tires of some other Cobalt ED... Have yet to reset computer and advance the timing a tad, but this thing pulls preeetty hard from 3000rpm. Kinda more so then I thought it would. Someone started a thread the other day, about getting beaten by a hilux. Well at the 'Sunshine Drag Strip', one of those new Hilux SR5's had a bit of a go... level... level... 3000rpm... SMACK... like that one Hilux boy? Had a scary moment at my exit off the Calder. had to stop at a stop sign, and heard a REAL bad noise, that sounded like it was coming from me. So I drive off, thinking "please god make it home". Turns out the weird a** noise was the sound of a train over a nearby bridge, echoing around the car Now I'm going to sleep, cause my knees hurt, and my finger is still f**k numb...

i like this one. have you ever noticed that when doing any form of engine work and you take the car for a drive you become really attune to new/different noises, and when you hear one, what ever it may be, you think "s**t she gonna blow, what did i forget etc"

i fitted one to a car today.
not much chance of a good test we have a nice cat5 cyclone on it way, and it started to ran just as we finnished putting it in. proveded nothing stupid happens with this cyclone the car will be at the drags to see if it can improve ont he flat 16 it ran last week. so we'll get some 98 BP in the tank muck with the ignition timming a bit. i think i also have him convinced he needs some 3.7 diff gears and 2500rpm stally. |

After a reset and, a bit of a timing fiddle, and more driving, the power starts to ramp up at about 2500.
3000-4500 is the 'sweet spot', where it starts to really hammer. It'd be a lot better in a manual car, where you can keep it in its powerband. Still fun in the slusher though! 3.7's and a 2500rpm stally would help it off the line alot. It also gives my car a nice little growl Idle is still bloody smooth. If it wasn't for the different sound, it'd almost be hard to pick. In the not-too-distant future, I should have it at the drags, to improve on my 16.9 A fitter engine would do this cam more justice, but we'll see how it goes with a tired old banger.

A Stage 2/3 cam with auto, 3.7's and a big stally would be a weapon!
3000-4500 powerband? The stage 3 is 4000 - beyond

you would have bettered that time by the end of the night if the hose didn't go pop.
if posible you need to get a little wheel spin off the line. |
