If I were to get PH4499 extractors and a 2.5" exhaust (the usual), not including the cat, where will the improvement in power be?
I'm hoping for bottom end to mid-range, because when dragging a VS commodore, by the time we hit 60km/h they're already in their top-end power-range, which sux, coz they pull ahead about a body length before we get into our top end range. I got beaten by my friend's VS Commodore wagon with 2 people in it. I was driving on LPG (tickford), which is hardly slower than petrol, and I have a crow cam. I still run a standard exhaust, though, and he has extractors and a 2 1/2". It's made a huge difference for his car. I'm hoping it will make a similar difference for mine. He shouldn't be beating me from the lights! |

Pacey comps give good low down and mid range power increase (sorry but I can never remember the part number of the standards and comps, so I just callthem standards and comps not PH4499 and PH4480).

ph4499 are supposed to be better low-end aren't they, cause i have 4480's and the top end is better not bottom end.
I have the 4480's, highflow cat and 2.5in system, and i picked up power and torque everywhere but <1500rpm.

dont expect any bottom end torque with a 2 1/2 system!!! go for the 2 1/4"
you cant rev the car past 6000 anyway so why run a 2 1/2 ?, youll be suffering from backpressure starvation and youll loose torque (especially if its a stock 6.......please dont include a pod filter as a modification ) i know someone who installed a 2 1/4 (inner diameter) and it goes noticibly well

$327 + 22 delivery off ebay for extractors
exhaust system, from 300-500 with the exhaust i would just go for a 2 1/4" inner diameter with a cat only! i wouldnt bother with resignator or muffler, but the EPA will f**k u up, so probably add a resignator

What is the standard inner exhaust diameter? Less than 2 1/4?

2.25, with press bends, me thinks. Why you'd go 2.25 mandrel, I'll never know... 2.5" is tried and tested. Lost bottom end torque with just a 2.5" exhaust? Pffft... A 2.25" mandrel bend system will cost MORE then a 2.5", cause they'll have to custom make it, and that's if the shop even has a mandrel bender (HA). Just get an off-the-shelf 2.5" of whatever brand you can get for the best price...

The extractors mainly determine where you would be getting most of your power in ur power curve...exhaust will only give u between 1-5 kw and extractors will do same..

Tomorrow a 2.5" cat back system will be fitted. Can't afford extractors yet, so I'll wait a while. It should free it up a bit anyway.
Got a K&N air filter today, and she's definitely got more throttle response. It's not awesome, but it's noticeable. The torque curve seems more linear as well. Should I try push 'em to modify my cat as well? I think I might do that; make the outlet 2.5" instead of 2.25". Every little bit helps. |
