ive got a stock 96 el fairmont i waqnna get faster accelleration out of it i was thinking changing the diff what would i have to do and what are the advantages and disadvantages ve never really played with diff ratios before so i dont have a clue any help would be great thanx

changing to a 3.9 diff will give u much better acceleration but it will aslo mean at 100kmh cruising, you will be using more rpm therefore a using more fuel then u normally would.
complete 3.9 lsd diff can be had for 900 bucks or so
but u can go cheap and buy a skyline diff out of the paper for 50 bucks and pay a diff shop to swap the 3.9 gears fomr the skyline diff into your diff. will probably cost about 500 bucks but it wont be lsd.
