As the topic states, can this be done. It would elimenate the need for Hub adapters and spacers, and then you would have a wide variety of wheels to fit the car.
If it were easy then most people on here would be doing it I suppose. Has anyone tried and what parts were required?? What problems would you run into doind this?? |

yeah I know what you meant ... in that thread there is this ... doesn't it answer your question???
Modifications to disc brake calipers, hubs and suspension and steering components to enable the fitting of replacement wheels are not allowed.

Yes but doesnt this also come into the fitting of hub adaptors (not spacers) being deemed legal and safe and road worthy on the provision the installation, workmanship etc is evaluated and certified by an RTA approved engineer ?

Yes it can be done. The CMS 4spot conversion is based on this idea. And for those interested, all teething issues with the CMS 4Spotters have now been rectified.

I might try to find a wrecked BA and get the parts cheaply and see if this can be done, its the only way I suppose

I was thinking that it shouldnt be too hard just to swap the stub axles from a ba or au. you know the rod that goes from the bottom ball joint to the top ball joint. and has the axle brake brackets. they look almost the same. i might try it one day on my eb and dads ba.

a ba front suspension would not fit you may have a better chance of au 2 fitting as au 1 is very similar to ef el so maybe au2 would be close , but then you have the problem of still running adaptors on the rear

you could also fit an AUII rear diff :p

I suppose the time and the money that is involved in making all this fit I might as well go and buy a BA. Thanks for the reponses guys
the only reason why I want to try it is because everytime I enquire about a rim that I like I always seem to get the response that "no they do not make it in e series offset". I don't want to run hub adaptors as i heard these can put more pressure on the existing bolts and I am unsure to what my insurance company might say. You'd think with all the e series cars being relatively cheap now that more and more things would be being made to fit. |

You'd think with all the e series cars being relatively cheap now that more and more things would be being made to fit. there is no extra pressure on axles if there was my wheels would have fallen off by now the way i drive so figure that out, they only reason you dont run them is cos insurance but if you get a engineers cert they are fine and im pretty sure someone on here has got that done to run them
