Hey
I got king spring superlows for my EL wagon. I was wondering whether it was a good idea to change the shocks too or whether the stock ones will be fine? My car has only just cracked 150000km. What are the benefits/pitfalls of changing or not changing the shocks when lowering my car. Cheers |

I thought monroe didn't make shocks to suit superlows?

Yeah spoke to monroe today, they do not have any to suit super lows only lows/xr6 height (30cm drop), any more no good and they don't have any that will do the job.
I pretty sure some people have fitted std's with super lows on here, not recommended though and not sure they have had any problems. |

Change the fronts atleast, you dont want to have to pull the springs etc back out if you find out your originals are knackered. Rears are easy to change. If the originals are still fitted they are due for a 10th birthday soon, new ones will make a big difference in the way the car handles with the lower springs. |

It wont be so bumpy and such a rough ride if you have new shortened shocks to suit the springs. I know that the Pedders range have shortened shocks to suit these sorts of applications. Either Sports Ryder or Comfort Gas. God damn am i glad i got the Comfort Gas, cause its a hard ride as it is.
If you're looking to do the lowering on the cheap, don't change them, but they may weep or blow the seal on the shock anyways. But doing shocks wil more than add the springs price on top again. |

Ahhhh you are all right... I should really change the front shocks.
What does everyone think of gabriel ultras? Will they suit? I can get a pair for $180. |

Good stuff i had standards on my King supers have had for about one and a half years now but i've sinced changed the rears cause as you know there easy anyway and it was a bit bumpy for passengers in the rear, going to be changing the fronts when i get the chance. I'd choose a brand ya know or know is good and just get the XR spec/type shockys thats what i got in the rear and man they made a Huge Diff, which is another reason y i now wanna change the fronts.

So what shocks will suit. I found some gabriel ultras but they were $189 each!! That's a bit rich for my blood.

See if you can find some Pedders Comfort Gas or Sports Ryder, to suit Superlows. They shouldn't be too expensive, but they seem to work pretty well, in mine and a few of my mates cars.
Don't know what everyone else has experienced with them... |
