Just wondering if you can ID the ratio of a diff without taking the guts out and counting the teeth? Do they have a tag on the diff or is it stamped on the cars Plates somewhere? The reason is my brother in law bought an EA and he doesnt know the ratio, as the book says the EA came out with about 5 different diff ratios.

but it could have been removed... i heard somewhere if you spin the tail shaft and count how many times the wheel spin or vice versa. dont know if there is any truth in that though...

im pretty sure if you drain the oil and remove the rear diff cover it will be stamped on the edge of the crownwheel somewhere. Just turn the wheels a few times untill you find it. Im pretty sure it should be there i know on my old crownwheel out of my XH it has 3.23:1 stamped on it. See if someone can confirm this for EA's before you go ahead.
