it sounds like condensation.
it does that when cold, even on new cars.

Does the exaust fumes on start up smell like coolant? and have you noticed a loss in coolant over the past 2 months. Monitor the levels, if there is a drop have the cooling system pressure tested.

mm a by product of internal combustion is h20
when cold the amount of water is noticble for the simple fact it has not evaporated insdie the exhaust pipe

once the exhaust pipe warms up the water evaporates inside teh piep and is passed out without u noticing it

this is normal and fine i would only be worried if there was excessive amounts of water AND u were loosing coolant

what type of car? falcon? camira? charade? excel? the "steam" would just be saved up condensation in the exhaust and would just heat the condensation until it evaporated turning into the steam u see coming out your exhaust... idling funny? might just need a bit of a spirited drive to "blow away the cobwebs" from sitting for a couple of days...

as the exhaust pipe cools down, it sucks air back into it.

Air has water in it.

Condensation :)
