Hey all,

I'm looking at buying an XR8 5 speed.

I haven't owned an 8 since an XC 302, is there anything I should be looking for, any common problems they have etc?

I'm interested in this as well as there is an EF XR8 manual that is worthy of an inspection at a local dealer.

Check that clutch pedal and pedal box are o/k and check firewall where cable comes through, they can crack..Check or listen for rattly tappets..Listen to gear box ? But generally they are a tuff car!!!

Engine wise the only "common" (i.e. i've seen more than one person on here with the problem, lol) problems that would be worth checking are the condition of the harmonic balancer and for any leaks around the water pump.

As with any E-series falcon, make sure cooling system has been looked after. As EBXR sez, check the peddle box/firewall for any wear.

Check the gearbox thouroughly when you test drive one. The T5 is not a very strong box in my opinion and if its had any hard life, the box will not hold up well (well, mine didn't anyway). To have a T5 rebuilt will cost you big dollars too. Also, dunno if the ABS in the EF series was any better than the EB's, but check for that too. My ABS was f**k when i bought the car but the dodgy f**k, C**k, wanker, loser, d***head of a dealer took the bulb out so i wouldn't know. It was only that i suspected this later on when i locked up the brakes that i checked for the bulb and it wasn't there. I chucked one in and sure enough it lit up "Check A.B.S.". Bastards!
