CAn anyone please give me some hints on why my interior heater seems to not get hot
I thought they were controlled by water temp or am I wrong

I thought they were controlled by water temp or am I wrong They are heated by water temp. If its not getting Hot then: Engine running too cold - wrong thermostat? Heater core blocked - Flush or replace heater core. Heater tap inoperative - replace heater tap.

vacuum valve for heater tap not operating (or vacuum leak)
Blend motor not working or hasn't been calibrated.

Blend motor not working or hasn't been calibrated. A vacuum leak at the heater tap would leave it fully open. It only requires vacuum to close it, ie cooling.

I have a similar problem with my EL Fairmont Ghia (with climate control). When I turn the temp up high it only blows out cold air. I am pretty sure the demisters are screwing around too. This would be related wouldn't it?

Sorry I am only 17... What I meant was that the rear demisters don't work, but this is probably a different problem altogether. I am sure the heater doesn't work though and don't know the cause. I am currently seeking advice on the net cos my Dad and I would rather fix it ourselves than pay the price to get it done... There are a lot of things that can go wrong in Fairmont Ghias...

Ok, the rear demister is a seperate unit to the front heater and windscreen demister. The rear demister is a electrically heated element inside the rear screen with a seperate circuit and fuse. So definately a differant problem. First check the fuse. If the front heater isn't working at all. Check the heater tap. That is a vacuum operated tap located on a heater hose under the intake manifold. If this blocks up it will prevent hot water from getting into the heater. Secondly perform the Climate control diagnostics as described in the technical document, http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/documents.php?doc=9 After doing this even if no errors are found the diagnostics will recalibrate the blend door position. Thirdly the heater core may be blocked. You can try and flush it out yourselfs by connecting a garden hose to one of the heater hoses and letting it flush out until the water runs clean. If this fails you may need to replace the heater core - this is a dash out job!

my bet is the tap it is a common failure and cheap and easy to replace.
