I have an EL Ghia with premium sound. Want to replace the little sub in the parcel tray with a better quality sub.
How do you get it in/out without messing up the carpet on the parcel tray. Can it be taken from underneath??

The parcel shelf has to be removed to pull out the 8" sub. The small nuts on the underside of all speakers in sheft have to be removed (3 nuts each for outer speakers and 4 for the sub) the baby harness mount has to be removed along with the plastic plugs/pins. The carpet that folds up under the front of the shelf also has to be peeled back. Carefully remove parcel shelf to gain access to the sub. The centre belt cannot be removed in this process so just work around it.

Thanks,
seems like too much muckin around. May just add a 12 inch in the boot, be easier. The speaker when cranked abit makes the back parcel tray rattle quite a bit. Sounds a bit silly. Want to reduce the rattle?? How??

its not that hard to take out the parcel shelf......well i guess it wasnt for me cause all the seats were out. do what EB V8 said but if u want u can undo the seat belt bolt that holds down the centre seat belt and squeeze it through the hole which the seat belt passes through the parcel shelf. other then that u can just take the parcel shelf off and push it aside....doesnt take much work i dun think

If you want better bass on the cheap side just add a boxed sub off the factory amp. I did for a while until i upgraded my whole system. The bass whas alot better than the factory sub and it was only a 10" jl sub.

the factory amp is only good for powering the factory sub. if you going to replace the sub make sure you repalce the amp as well or add another one in, because you will find it will probly sound worse.

I beg to differ on that! the factory sub has a 6ohm rating so its not running to hard as the parcel shelf will just rattle.
The factory sub is also on the cheap side, i had a boxed 10" JL audio dual voice coil sub running off it at 4ohms and there was a huge improvement. About 6 months later i upgraded the whole system, there are pics in my gallery. |
