hey,
Car is at mechanics getting the oil pressure switch, and the mechanic decides to just double check it on a master guage, the first time it was running 25 PSI which wasn't bad he says, next he tells me the pressure just went beserk dropping to 5 psi, and at one stage wrote off teh guage because it went so high, well over the 75 PSI teh relief valve should open at. says he's absolutley stumped as to why it is doing this so best thing to do is rip out the donk, flip it over and check out the pump. reckons if it is the pump its a 10-12 hour job which means $$$$$ and all this when i was putting it on the market this weekend any thoughts?

either replace the motor with a second hand one, fix the problem, or leave it.
i'd fix it, but i'd like to actually see it before i take the mechanics word for it.

Not very likely, but maybe his guage just decided to die at that point
Throw on another guage before spending and $$$

Just leave it and tell the people who come to look it may need an new oil pump. If you spend the money on it to fix it then unfortunately you will not get that money back
