are the lock barrels for the front doors seperate to the actual door handles? the ones on my ED are keyed differently to the ignition, so if i can, i wanna either get them re-coded or replaced

Yeah, similar situation as the later models, remove door trim, remove handles, pull the clip, remove lock cylinder.
Might be easier to remove the ignition lock cylinder and match it to the doors and boot/tailgate.

theres the thing, the door locks were replaced cos apparently someone tried forcing one of the locks (bought the car off the original owners neice, and thats what she said, tho i suspect it was just the normal story of the lock cover falling out)
the door locks were replaced, but the ignition and bootlid are the same

should be easy enough for a decent lock smith to change the lock to suit your ignition key. shold be easy enough for you to pull it out.

it maybe be cheaper an easier to buy a full lock and key set from a wreckers... ignition lock, doors and boot...

You can work out the code for the lock and do it yourself if you have enough of the correct internal plates. (just go to the wrecker and get a couple of door locks from a few different cars)

Basically inside the lock there are six 'coded' plates (or tumblers) that correspond with the key. There are four different shaped tumblers.
So pull apart the boot lock, remove the circlip and pull out the centre barrel, from the open side panel, you can read the tumbler's number via the groves in its side. One groove = 1 Two groove = 2 Three groove = 3 Zero groove = 4 (EDIT: Knowing the tumbler code helps if you want it re-keyed and dont have a key - you read it from outside of the lock, to in) Just build the door locks to read the same and youve re-keyed your lock for next to nothing. Let me know if you want me to scan the lock section from the workshop manual.
