ok guys here is my problem.
i have a EBII S XR6 manual and i have recently put a new clutch in. but now every time i push on the clutch pedal it is heavier than the last time, the clutch still operates normally just the pedal is heavy and loosing travel. now i think i have found the problem. there is a big bracket that attaches to the fire wall and off which the three pedals all hang on shafts attached to the said bracket. i"ve looked and the clutch pivot point (fat shaft thingy) is bent to hell and back. i'm pulling it out atm but would like to know if anyone has had this problem before and could offer any different solutions(ie replacement) ??/ maybe what other model ( ea, ed etc) bracket i could bolt in as a replacement... cheers

Hi,
that "big bracket" that attaches to the firewall is called the Pedal Box. The "fat shaft thingy" that the clutch sits on bending is a common fault. I got mine reinforced by a panel beater. You might also want to check the firewall where the clutch cable goes through to see if there is any cracking.

thanks heaps, i'm going to bend the shaft back into position and gusset it and weld the hell outta it to make oit stay where its supposed to be.

It will need a little more than a touch of weld to bring it back. the pedal box is a very thin, low carbon stamping; the clutch pedal pivot is essentially welded in postion to the pedal box and supported by a thin, spot-welded re-inforcing plate behind the pedal spigot. All the load is taken up by this plate. This is the b**ch that needs attention, both in removal of flex and increasing the area for surface adhesion (area welded to the pedal box).
See Cresent Head motor sports about it. They have a mod for this problem at a very fair price.

spent all day friday fixing it and putting the dash back in as well as tidying up the under dash wiring etc... this is whatt looked like and what it looks like now.
